Equipment On Site:
The studio rooms are as follows: The Control Room, The Ensemble Performance Room, the Vocal Isolation Booth, and the smaller Isolation Closet for guitar amps--see the photo tour for more detail.
The following is not a complete list of equipment; if you have specific questions not answered here, feel free to email.
Cakewalk SONAR 5, Producer Edition
This music production software is the functional center of the whole studio. I have used Sonar in recording since the first version, and have found it to be of very professional quality, with a ton of functionality.
E-mu 1820m Audio Interface
This is where all the audio signals are routed to and interfaced with the computer; this is E-mu's current flagship, mastering-level digital audio system. Normally the operating audio resolution runs at 24-bit/48kHz, but if necessary this unit can run up to 24 bit/192kHz (if you know or care about what that means!)
ADK Pro Audio Computer
The main studio computer was designed and built by ADK Pro Audio, which specializes in computers built for music production; their systems have powered some high-profile venues, such as U2’s Vertigo tour and the Grand Ole Opry, among others.
Event TR-8 Tuned Reference Monitors
I originally used the classic Yamaha NS-10's, but found these to have a more rounded sound, and more clarity.
MA-200 Large Diaphragm Tube Microphone
The latest and greatest addition to the studio--I have two of these, and for vocals and instruments they are amazing!
Eureka Transformer Coupled Preamp
I have two of these excellent preamps to sweeten sound sources as they're recorded.
Behringer ADA8000 Ultragain Digital Preamp
This unit adds eight microphone inputs to the eight inputs that are already available with the E-mu 1820m. Therefore, I can record up to sixteen tracks simultaneously.
Behringer B-1 Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphones
I have five of these; and although they are not considered “high-end” (i.e. extremely expensive), I have found them to have a very pleasant sound, and to be very useful for both vocals and instruments. I sold one of my more expensive mics to get more of these!
Mogami Audio Cables
I use these throughout the studio, for mics, speakers and other connections; they are considered an industry standard cable for studio recording.
Shure Microphones (various)
I use SM57s, SM58s, and SM81s, depending on the application; they are all classic, good quality workhorse microphones.
